Doing The Right Thing

“I cannot believe that we are tied on something that is so important to every citizen in this community,” Mayor Jodi Miller snapped after the final vote concerning the 1% sales tax increase dedicated to the construction of roads ended in a 4-4 tie. Leaving her in the position of breaking the tie.

And while it was fully expected that there would be three “no” votes, the fourth one was – for lack of a better word – cowardly.

Larry Sanders, Rachel Simmons and Cecelia Stacy were expected to vote against the measure. Both Simmons and Stacy had tried to delay it, and Sanders didn’t even remember any...
