Stockton

Clyde LaVerne Pohl, 87

Clyde LaVerne Pohl, age 87, of Stockton, IL passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Stockton on July 3, 1936 to the late Herman and Ruby (Wilcox) Pohl. Clyde married Janice Lingle on June 17, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Derinda.

Clyde was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton and the Plum River Masonic Lodge. He farmed most of his life. He was also a construction worker for the Galena Territories and a Custodian for the Stockton School District. In his spare time, he stained log cabins with the help of his children and grandchildren. Clyde spent a lot of time volunteering for the Lena Living Center and eventually became an employee. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, dancing and playing cards. Most of all, Clyde loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, seldom missing a sporting event.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Pohl; his daughters, Penny (Bob) Williams, Judy (Dennis) VenHuizen and Lynette (Kevin) Martin; his grandchildren, Chad (Rucel) VenHuizen, Candy (Anthony) Velardi, Bobbi Rowe, Trista (Matt) Timpe, Kyle (Abby) VenHuizen, Amber (Jason) VenHuizen, Kailynn Martin and Elaina Martin; his 19 great grandchildren; his 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his 2 sisters, Jean and Melva; his 3 brothers, Melvin, Joe and John; and his great grandson, Calvin.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. Pauline June Feltmeyer, 100

Pauline June Feltmeyer, age 100, of Stockton, IL passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at her home. She was born at home in Warren, IL on February 2, 1923 to the late Joseph and Lottie (Sigafus) McKee. Pauline married Nolan Feltmeyer on October 9, 1943 in Galena, IL. Nolan passed away December 2, 1996.

Pauline was a graduate of Warren High School and attended Calvary Church of Stockton. In her early years, she had worked at the Army Depot in Savanna and Dekalb Corn Plant in Warren. She then raised a family and helped her husband on the farm and often milked the cows. After retirement, Pauline and Nolan enjoyed vacationing once a year in TX. She loved puzzles, road trips, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny (Steve) Oppold of Pearl City; her sons, Jerry (Mary) Feltmeyer of Stockton and Dale (Linda) Feltmeyer of Harrison, AR; her grandchildren, Tim (Diane) Feltmeyer of Erie, PA, Tina (Tim) Buske of Stockton, Lisa (Kurt) Bardell of Freeport, Jason (Ashley) Feltmeyer of Harrison, AR, Chad (Jordy) McPeek of Pearl City and Bryan (Rachel) McPeek of Pearl City; her 4 step grandchildren, Shelly, Mike, Cory and Ashley Oppold; her 15 great grandchildren, Genna, Nathan, Karli, Nolan, Garrett, Bryce, Landon, Shelby, Jayce, Madelyn, Brynlee, Marlee, Sarah, Paige, and Griffin; her 2 great great grandchildren, Mia and Lane; and her sister-in-law, Lorraine Feltmeyer of Lanark.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her 3 brothers, Earl (infancy), Golden and Cletus; her 8 sisters, Jean Vanoski, Retta Eicholtz, Mae Harris, Alberta Maddrell, Gladys Hale, Viola Pax, Edna Geilenfelt and Eileen McKee (infancy); and her grandchildren, Jessica McPeek and Cory McPeek.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Laura Noll, Debbie Jordan and Daely Tippett for their loving care.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Calvary Church of Stockton at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. Freeport

William J. Davis, 71

William J. Davis, 71, of Freeport, Il passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, Il on October, 9, 2023.

William was born in Freeport, Il on February 24, 1952 to William and Donna Davis. William entered the Airforce after graduating Freeport High School in 1969 serving in Vietnam. He then started his career at Honeywell as an electronic technician for 30 years. He married Mariam Davis on October 30, 1992 in Freeport, Il.

William was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working on his Midget car and anything electronics related.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Davis; mother, Donna Davis; and aunt, Elizabeth Highland.

He is survived by his wife, Mariam Davis of Forreston; sister, Kris of Charleston, North Carolina; son, Derrick of Colorado; and two daughters, Becky (Venancio) Ugalde of Freeport, Il and Rachel (Damein) Nipple of Monroe, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Michelle (Andrew) Gischer, Cheyanne Ugalde, Nate Ugalde, Victoria Wilkinson, Kyler Wilkinson, Andrianna Wilkinson, Killian Nipple and Dixon Nipple.

Lena

Kathryne “Katie” Keeffer-Warthen, 97

Kathryne “Katie” Keeffer-Warthen, 97, of Lena, IL passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 16, 2023 surrounded by her family. Katie was born on March 31, 1926 to John and Gladys Mantzke in Lena, IL. She was a 1944 graduate of Lena High School. Katie married Gale Keeffer in 1944. Katie worked alongside her father, John, at the Lena Tavern. In 1956, Gale and Katie bought the tavern from John. Many from the area knew the tavern as Red and Katie’s. Gale preceded her in death in 1983. Katie married LaVerne “Coop” Harnish, and then married Harry Warthen, they both preceded her in death.

Katie was an avid golfer, she even scored a Hole-in-One on April 25, 1995 on Hole 6 at the Lena Golf Course. She loved playing cards and traveling to places like Hawaii and Europe, and she especially enjoyed wintering in Harlingen, TX, Pembroke Pines, FL, and Green Valley, AZ.

Katie is survived by her son John (Jeanette) Keeffer of Lena, grandchildren; Brian (Elaine) Keeffer, Carla (Barry) Homan, Dana (Christin) Keeffer, all of Lena, Allison (Brandon) James and Christine Keeffer, both of Madison, WI, great-grandchildren; John (Bobbi) Keeffer, Katie (Colton) Russell, Madi (Blake) Becke, Jake (Kati Eden) Homan, Peyton (Abby Roxby) Keeffer, Bryant (Autumn Reeves) Keeffer, Gavin (Marianna Brenner) Keeffer, and Olivia (Hunter Vick) Keeffer, great-great grandchildren; Everly, Ruby, and Sawyer Keeffer, Briggs and Briar Becke, and Axl Russell, daughter-in-law; Lou Keeffer of Madison, WI, sister-in-law Judy Mantzke of Freeport, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Gale, Coop, and Harry, her son Tim Keeffer, grandson Brad Keeffer, sister Jean Dittmar and her brother Donald Mantzke.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. A visitation was from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Jason Shaw and Pastor Rick Bader co-officiated the services. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.

Schapville

Simone K. (Huett) Winter, 74

Simone K. (Huett) Winter, 74, of Schapville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Ascension Village-St. Joseph, Freeport, IL, following an extensive illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, at the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church in Schapville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Simone was born on November 3, 1948 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Earl “Buck” and Alice (Earlenbaugh) Huett. She was a graduate of Lena-Winslow High School in 1968. On May 26, 1979, she was united in marriage to James “Slim” Winter at the Lena United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2009.

Simone and Slim formerly farmed in rural Schapville, and she also worked at Dura Automotive in Stockton, IL. She was a member of the High Point Cruisers Car Club, and the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church. Simone and Slim loved going for rides in their 1973 Dodge Charger.

Simone was a very strong, independent woman who loved her family dearly and never complained. She would care for her many farm cats, which were a main love in her life. Her second love was for Alan Jackson, spending time listening to music and attending many of his concerts. Simone loved to collect as many cookbooks as she could get her hands on, reading them cover to cover.

Surviving are her siblings, Melodie (Tony) Smith of Freeport, IL, Darrell (Zenna) Busch of Apple Canyon Lake, IL, and Sue of Freeport, IL, nephews and niece Ryan (Angela) Chapman of Oak Harbor, WA, Adam Chapman of Boulder, CO, TJ (Tina) Smith of Browntown, WI, Ben (Kim) Smith of Janesville, WI, Dayne (Erica) Busch of Spanish Fort, AL, Travis Busch of Anoka, MN, Andy (Brittany) Busch of Minot, ND, Katie (Trent) Shumway of Mohomet, IL; her in-laws, Donald “Tony” (Karen) Winter of Nora, and Laurie (Daryl) Pahnke of Stockton; nephews, Chad (Chris) Winter and Luke (Allison Kubat) Winter both of Lena, a niece, Rebecca (Neill) Cahill of Stockton; an aunt, cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Simone was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Evelyn Huett, her husband, James “Slim” Winter, two brothers, David and Ron Busch, her father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Gloria (Stadel) Winter, and a great-nephew, Owen Cahill.

In lieu of flowers a Simone Winter memorial fund has been established.

Apple River

Randy “Roy” Koehn, 63

Randy “Roy” Koehn, 63, of Apple River, IL passed away on October 11, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 12, 1960 in Hazel Green, WI to Harlan and Edith (Bourquin) Koehn. Roy was a 1978 graduate of Warren High School. He was a truck driver for various companies throughout the area.

Roy was a huge sports fanatic. He was an avid Raiders fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR and college football. Roy could shoot the bull with anyone, he was a friend to everyone, and was a regular at Farmer’s Exchange in Warren, and the bars downtown.

Roy is survived by his brother Steve Koehn of Scales Mound, IL and his sister Mary Koehn of Freeport, IL, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Terry Koehn, Tim Koehn and Jamie Koehn, and his nephew Kirk Koehn.

Per Roy’s request no formal services will be held.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 1:00pm-5:00pm at the Pecatonica Tap House in Warren, IL.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place at West Ella Cemetery in Gratiot, WI.
