Virginia L. Turner, 85

Virginia L. Turner, age 85, passed away on August 7, 2023 peacefully at home. She was born September 8, 1937 at St. Francies Hospital in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Elmer “Pete” and Evelyn (Mellentine) Helsinger. Virginia married Allen Turner on April 9, 1955 in Fort Riley, KS. She graduated from Highland Nursing School as an LPN and worked for 24 years at Monroe Clinic Hospital.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lena.

Virginia is survived by her six children; Deborah (John Blair) Jordan of Stockton, IL, David (Lorraine) Turner of Freeport, IL, Sherry (Jim) Soehnlein of Madison, WI, Peggy (Dan) Korth of Stockton, IL, Stuart (Filomena) Turner of Vacaville, CA, Michelle (Steve) Christianson of Pearl City, IL, 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, one sister; Judy (Phillip) Welty of Monroe, WI.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Turner, her parents, one grandson Leo Gerke, and one great-grandson Timothy Jordan.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Lena Burial Park in Lena. Rev. Rick Bader will officiate the services. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Robert “Bob” Daws, 80

Robert “Bob” Daws, 80, of Lena, IL passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Lena Living Center. Bob was born on September 1, 1942 to George and Kathryn (Loomis) Daws in Freeport, IL. He attended Lena High School, and married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Duth on June 26, 1959 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and together they raised four children.

Bob was a lifelong farmer in the rural Lena area. In their younger years, Bob and Dianne enjoyed square dancing. They also enjoyed traveling to the Amish communities, visiting the bakeries and enjoying the flowers. Bob could talk to anyone and everyone, and enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and his friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Dianne of Lena, daughter Pamela (Bill) Lingle of Canton, IL, and their children; Lauren (Carl) Fischer and Lucas (Fiance Nicole Beebe) Lingle, son Ronald (Becky) Daws of Lena, IL, son Roger (Michele) Daws of Freeport, IL and their children; Shaun (Laiken) Daws, Adam (Kelaiah) Daws, and Karri Daws, daughter-in-law Anne Daws and her children; Nicholas Daws and Ariel (Noah) Zellmer, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jon Daws, sister Marilynn Murphy and his brother James Daws.

Per Bob’s request, no services will be held. Cremation rites were accorded.

Dennis R. Paulsen, 76

Dennis R. Paulsen, 76, of St. Donatus, IA, formerly of Lena, IL passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Dennis was born on December 27, 1946 in Freeport, Illinois to Lewis and Lois (Shippee) Paulsen. He served his country in the United States Army. Dennis worked in data control for various computer companies. He also owned and operated his own restaurant for 19 years in Minnesota.

Dennis is survived by his brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Greg Paulsen.

Per Dennis’s request, no services will be held. Burial will take place at Salem-Shippee Cemetery in McConnell, IL.
