Glenn M. Hockman Jr., 78

Glenn M. Hockman Jr. age 78 of McConnell died on October 24, 2022 at Ascension St. Joseph Center in Freeport, Illinois. He was born on May 4, 1944 in Winslow to Glenn and Nora (Hurst) Hockman Sr. On June 6, 1965 he and Cheryl Ferguson were married at Red Oak Methodist Church.

Prior to his retirement in 1999, he worked at Kelly Springfield Tire Company for 34 years. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, camping, fishing, gardening, dancing, and the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Atlanta Braves. He spent many hours in his shop, he was an excellent woodworker. Glenn was also the president of the McConnell Historical Society.

Glenn is survived by his children Jeffrey (Gina) Hockman of Freeport, IL and Julie Edler of Orangeville, IL, grandchildren; Evan (Paige) Edler, Morgan Hockman, Grace Edler, Cheyenne Hockman, and Hannah (Daniel) Moreno, great-grandchildren; Brantley, Jagger, Wyatt, Madison, Mathayus, Leonidas, and Vaeda, his brother-in-law Gary (Pamela) Ferguson, and special friend Fran Ploessl and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, a nieces, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL. Visitation was from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Freeport, IL. Pastor Roger Bronkema officiated the services. A luncheon was at Orangeville United Methodist Church in Orangeville, IL following the burial.

Stockton

Melba Young, 87

Melba Young, age 87, of Stockton, IL passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Galena Nursing Home. She was born on January 16, 1935 in Onley, IL to the late Clarence and Flossie (Brainard) McCommons. Melba married Donald Young in October of 1953. Donald passed away in February 2009.

Melba was a 1953 graduate of Flora High School. She was a member of Harmony Methodist Church in Flora and attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton. Melba had worked for Western Electric, assembling circuit boards. She enjoyed quilting, painting, gardening, antiques, auctions and garage sales. Most of all, Melba loved spending time with her family and her dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Tess Wackerlin of Stockton; her daughter-in-law, Sharon (Rex) Young of Clinton, WI; her grandchildren, Heather DeWeese, Kelly (Jacob) Bryant, Brock (Laura) Wackerlin, Drew Wackerlin, Jamie Wackerlin, Jason (Misty) Young and Cassie Young; her great grandchildren, Kyle, Brayden, Colt, Ella, Avery, Brynn, Carly, Cameron and Barrett; her one great great grandchild, Charleigh; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two sons, Glenn and Rex; her brother, Dale McCommons; her four sisters, Maxine Lowe, Vera Colclasure, Erma Neely and Jeanette Hochgesang; and her beloved dog, Sheba.

A funeral service will be held at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Kneff Cemetery in Flora, IL.
