Stockton

Stanley Wayne Evans, 70

Stanley Wayne Evans, age 70, of Stockton, IL passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born December 2, 1951 in Freeport, IL to Harry and Helen (Stanley) Evans. Stan married Kristine Tucker on August 26, 1972. Kris passed away October 20, 2019.

Stan was a 1970 graduate of Stockton High School. He worked at Kelly Springfield right out of High School, until he retired almost 40 years later. Stan then worked at Brewster Cheese part time.

Stan was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather; known not only to his grandchildren, but most kids as “Poppy Stan” (a role he loved and relished in). He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all activities, always telling his embellished stories about his own experiences. He was the best golf instructor to each of his grandsons, and a great cheerleader for his granddaughters. Stan enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking, and watching the Bears and College Basketball. He found humor in almost anything and loved making people laugh. Stan loved talking and entertaining people everywhere he went, his favorites being his Corner Tap and Subway workers. He was always willing to help anyone with anything they needed and spent the last few years caring and running errands for his sister.

Stan is survived by his son, Dan (Robin) Evans; his daughters, Amy (Scott) Hagi, Jamie (Mark) Rowe and Jeanna (Jeremy) Tucker; his brother, Keith (Alice) Evans; his sister, Donna (Duane) Kupersmith; his grandchildren, Ben and Holly Hagi, Chase and Casey Rowe, Tyler, Tristan, Tessa and Colby Tucker, and Madyson, Haley, Brooke, Cullen and Chloe Evans. And many nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his three sisters, Shirley, Jeannie and Rita.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Hermann Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Luncheon will follow at Stella’s Café at 2:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be shared at http://www.hermannfuneralhome.com.

Freeport

Ora Mae Bastian, 83

Ora Mae Bastian, 83, of Freeport, IL, passed away on September 5, 2022. She was born on April 6, 1939, in Freeport to Joseph and Florence (Holland) Hurst.

She is survived by her son Joseph (Mary) Bastian of Cedarville, IL, grandkids: Colton (Lexie) Bastian of Stockton, IL, and Taylor Bastian of Peoria, IL; nephew Gene (Cheryl) Olmstead, and great-granddaughter Alayna May Bastian.

She was preceded in death by her sister Carlene Olmstead, husband Emmerson Bastian, father Joseph Hurst, and mother Florence Hurst.

A memorial service was held on Saturday September 10, 2022, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL. Visitation was from 10 AM until time of service.

Forreston

Carol Fluegel, 90

Carol Fluegel went home to her husband and 2 of her children on Saturday September 3, 2022.

Carol was born on July 7, 1932 to John H and Ber Dena (Daniels) Swalve in Forreston, IL. She graduated from Forreston High School in 1950 and attended North Central College in Naperville.

Prior to her marriage Carol worked in the ASCS office until her marriage to Eugene Fluegel on January 2, 1954. Then she worked side by side with her husband farming in Shannon, Pearl City, and the final farm in Lena from 1967 until her retirement.

Carol was a constant volunteer throughout her life to many organizations and always put children first. She was a 45-year member of Lena United Methodist Church, Pearl City Lioness Club, Stephenson County 4H Federation where she previously served on the board and was a 4H Club Leader. She also served on the Stephenson County Home Extension, Northwest Hospice Association Board, and Stephenson County Fair Jr. open as the superintendent for Home Ec for 50 years. She was instrumental in starting the former homework assistant program at the Lena-Winslow Grade School.

Carol and her husband also were very active in the International Fellowship Committee starting in 1967. Thru the years they hosted over 100 guest and families from throughout the world, also making the family home life exciting.

Carol is survived by her daughter- Renee Buisker of South Wayne, WI; sons- Ronald Fluegel of Lena, IL and Roger Fluegel of Visalia, CA; grandchildren- Adam (Beth) Buisker of Palisades, CO, Ashley (Jeremiah) Kleiber of Darlington, WI, Annalisa (Jason) Culver of Lena, IL, Riley (Ashley) Fluegel of Lena, IL, Hannah (Preston) Heard of Houston, TX, and Claire (Payton) Goltiao of Salem,OR; great grandchildren- Xavier and Lillith Buisker, Evelin Fluegel, Trent and Alleigh Culver, Evelyn Burckhardt, Dustin and Alma Fluegel; sisters-in-law Lorraine Swalve of Forreston, IL and Damarius Swalve of Forreston, IL.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene Fluegel; son Ryan David and daughter Rhonda Sue; son-in-law Randall Buisker; brothers Lowell Swalve and Virgil Swalve.

Visitation was held from 4:00-8:00p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Lena United Methodist Church. Funeral Services celebrating Carol’s life were held on Friday September 9, 2022 at the Lena United Methodist Church. Burial was prior to service. Pastor Keri Rainsberger officiated.
