The Speech season for area teams has been slow in starting – partly due to Covid, but also due to the weather – and following last year's Zoom only competition, every single team in the area got hit – and hit hard.

Large teams like DeKalb that used to boast 30 to 45 kids participating, this year is down to only 12 on the roster. And small schools, like the reigning small school champion Stockton/Warren Warhawks ... have only five kids participating this year – leaving the door wide open to see who would step up.
