The Apple River Fort State Historic Site received a very special donation from librarian Judy Tippett and the River Ridge CUSD #210: a rare set of books about the Black Hawk War by former Illinois State Historian Ellen M. Whitney. This four-volume set, published between 1970 to 1978, is a comprehensive history of the Black Hawk War in the words of those who fought it. The three main volumes are complete transcriptions of surviving muster rolls, listing the nearly 10,000 men who served, an annotated chronological collection of correspondence relating to the war, from 1831 to 1834, and a full...
