The Stewart Center was celebrated for its 50 years of operation at a ceremony organized by the Greater Freeport Partnership.

On September 4, 1969, then State Bank President E.L Wright (Grandfather of Mark & Todd Wright of Midwest Bank) announced plans for a $2.75 million "mini-scraper". The 12-story building would be a monument of modernization, be the tallest bank in Northern Illinois outside of Chicago and would occupy an entire city block.
