Freeport

Anne R. Schubert, 69

Anne R. Schubert, age 69 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 after a courageous 15 month battle with uterine sarcoma.

She was born September 1, 1951 in Sterling, IL; the daughter of the late Paul and Betty (Gilbert) Sites. Anne married Ray Schubert on September 6, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milledgeville, IL.

In October of 2019, she retired from MetLife after 22 years. Previously Anne had worked 26 years in payroll and Human Resources at Structo/Thermos. For 40 years, she enjoyed cashiering 100’s of auctions with Freeport Auction Service, Lobdell Auction Service and Calhoun Auction Service. Anne also volunteered for Freeport Lincoln-Douglas Kiwanis fund raising and service projects. She also enjoyed reading, working in the yard, antiquing, and playing cards with Tom, Peg, Linda and Virginia. Anne also loved to travel, taking trips to Alaska, going on cruises in New England and Canada, attending Rose Parades, Fall trips to Michigan and Door County, visiting Amish Country, and exploring wineries. She was also a Packer fan and would watch the games with Ray, keeping his emotions in check.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Schubert of Freeport; sister, Jane (Wayne) Bossler of Crofton, MD; nieces, Susan Hammert and Marcia Bossler both of Maryland; nephew, Chris Kingery of Maryland; and step-brother-in-law, Larry (Tresa) Randecker. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A very special “thank you” to FHN Hospice and to Pat and Pat for their loving, tender care to keep Anne comfortable and at peace.

Stockton

Harvey R. Huttenlocher, 73

Harvey R. Huttenlocher, age 73 of Stockton, IL passed away on April 1, 2021 at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. He was born April 2, 1947 to Fred and Ruth Huttenlocher.

Harvey served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 then went home and farmed and had a fertilizer business.

He is survived by his sisters, Reola Miller of Shannon, Charlice (Carl) Steine of Warren, and Nancy Schubert of Cedarville; his brothers, Marion (Joyce) and Larry (MaryAnn); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Per Harvey’s request, no service will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Glenda Mae Keech, 76

Glenda Mae Keech, 76, of Stockton, IL passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at FHN. Born May 30, 1944 to Glenn and Clarabelle (Wurster) Endress, she married Edward Lee Keech on April 14, 1963 at Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton, IL where she was a long-time member.

Glenda worked at Structo/Thermos in Freeport, IL for 36 years before retiring. An active member of the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club, she served as Queen in 2006. After making her first "Mud Cake" at a real young age, she became an avid baker and cake decorator. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making anything with her trusted Singer. Glenda enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always there with open arms to help when needed.

Surviving are her three daughters; Blenda Mae Keech (Donnie) Gallup of Thomson, IL, Cindy Sue Keech of Stockton, IL, and Tina Marie Keech (Ryan) Schuster of Freeport, IL, her four sisters; Barbara Moss Bazala, Betty (Ed) Eagan, Nancy (Jim) Marsh, Bonnie Endress, her one brother; Kenneth Endress, her sisters in law; Glory Keech, JoAnn (Ralph) Boatwright, Marlene Ahrens, Donna Keech, her brothers in law & step; Don Keech, Gary Keech, David Alleman, her grandson; Timothy Lee (Crystal) Keech. Her granddaughters; Stephanie (Aaron) Lohberg - Huizenga and Kayla Marie Gallup, In addition, she is survived by 9 great grandchildren; Madison Dau, Nathen and Taylor Lohberg, Abby and Brooke Huizenga, Nicholas (Hannah) Aqrabawi, Amaya Aqrabawi, Sierra Hemm, Bryce Hemm.

Preceding her in death were her parents; Glen and Clarabelle Endress, her Husband; Edward Lee Keech, her Father and mother in-law; Lyle and Ruth (Brubaker) Keech, in addition, she is preceded in death by numerous other family members.

There will be a graveside service at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Hanover

Herbert E. Buss, 88

Mr. Herbert E. Buss, age 88, of Peachtree City, GA, passed away September 11, 2020.

Herbert (Herb) Buss was born on March 22, 1932 in Belmont, WI, to the late Alvin and Mary Buss. He grew up on a farm near Belmont WI alongside two older brothers and three younger sisters. Herb graduated from Belmont High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict. Upon completion of his military service, he enrolled in college with the GI Bill, where he met his future bride, Eileen Chapman. The couple wed in 1955.

Their family grew with the addition of their son, Mark in 1956. Herb earned his undergraduate degree at Platteville, Wisconsin Institute of Technology, and went on to study Agriculture Economics at North Dakota State, in Fargo, ND earning his Master’s Degree. The Buss family relocated to Lincoln, NE, where Herb worked in the Agricultural Department of the University of Nebraska for several years. Herb then went to work as a Real Estate Appraiser for the State of Nebraska and the City of Lincoln, which he did for many years until his eventual retirement. In 2017, Herb suffered the loss of his beloved wife, Eileen. He then moved to Georgia to be closer to his son. Herb spent the remainder of his life at Somerby, Senior Living in Peachtree City, GA.

Herb was a dedicated husband and father. He spent many years caring for his wife while she struggled with health issues. In his younger years, Herb enjoyed taking long walks. He had an interest in gardening and enjoyed making beer and wine. Herb was a longtime fan of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers and Green Bay Packers football teams.

Along with his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen Chapman Buss, and brothers, Joseph Buss and Walter Buss. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Mark. D Buss and Yvonne Carington-Buss of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Anthony Buss and Ryan (Meghan) Buss, all of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Connor and Zoey; sisters: Janet Doherty, Barb Kretsinger both of Machesney Park, IL and Judy Layng, of Rockford, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 24 at Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois.

Shannon

Mardell Ivy (Frey) Henze, 89

Mardell Ivy (Frey) Henze took a seat on the bleachers of Heaven on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Manor Court in Freeport, surrounded by family who celebrated a life well-lived.

Ernest and Edna (Zier) Frey & big brother Gordon welcomed their baby girl on Christmas Day 1931 in Rural Shannon. The family moved to Main Street Shannon, IL in 1936 to open The Gamble Store franchise and allow Mardell to begin first grade “in town”. Mardell graduated valedictorian of her 1948 class and maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates and town friends. She attended Coe College in Iowa and married Robert “Bob” Henze on May 4, 1952 in Shannon.

They farmed on the Shiley family farm south of Shannon in tandem with Bob's career in the United States Postal Service plus his 5-decades as a fast and slow pitch softball player. Mardell kept everything running smoothly for a family who never sat still! Their life was filled with friends, family, sports, music, dancing, community events, travel, and fun times. Bob & Mardell, along with 5 other area couples, formed a 500 card-club after the Korean War that met faithfully for over 5 decades forming bonds between the families which continue to this day.

After Bob's untimely death in 1988, Mardell continued the tradition of attending every game, meet, play, concert, match, and ceremony involving her family. Mardell was extremely proud of her heritage and made sure details of ancestors who travelled from Germany to America in the 1740's and from Leishershire, England to America in the 1830's were relayed via oral histories, artifacts, documents, and structures still standing around the Spring Valley area of Cherry Grove Township.

Mardell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, Brother and Sister in Law Gordon and Charlene Frey, Mother and father in law Mae and Harvey Henze, and niece Tara Frey.

She is survived and will be dearly missed by daughter Kay (Joel) Brooks, sons Scott (Jan) Henze, Karl (Colleen Finn) Henze; Grandchildren & Great-grandchildren Koel (Maggie) Brooks & Sofie Joy; Jorden (Ben) Sasscer, Allie Elizabeth & Jack William Lee; Allison Henze, Lea Henze, Kaden Henze, Erin Henze, Kellen Henze; Niece Paula (LeRoy) Pilsner; Nephew Steve (Delores) Frey.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Brethren Cemetery in Shannon.
