Lena

Wilma J. Kempel, 83

Wilma J. Kempel, 83, passed away on Tuesday September 17, 2019 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.

She was born on June 30, 1936 to William and Eva (Zettle) Busjahn. She married Alvin Kempel and he preceded her in death. Wilma farmed alongside her sister Sandy for 10 years. She also worked at Micro Switch, Swiss Colony, Structo, and a cheese factory. Wilma was a member of the Richland Free Methodist Church, Le- Aqua-Na Riders. She enjoyed painting with acrylics, reading her Bible faithfully and baking cookies for her church every week.

Wilma is survived by one sister; Sandy Leavens, of Bloomer, WI, Niece; Kelly Caleb, Nephew; Carl Braden, 2 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 1 great great neice, step-son; Tom (Gretchen) Kempel and their children, numerous cousins and special friend Marsha Tessendorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Monday September 23, 2019 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena. Visitation was from 12:00 noon until time of service. Pastor Tim Wauchope officiated the service. Burial will be in Staver Cemetery.

Hanover

David E. McCormick, 66

David E. McCormick, 66, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Hanover, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Sept 10, 2019. He was doing what he loved – playing a round of golf.

Visitation was at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 19, 2019. A second visitation was held from 9:00 to 10:00 am, Friday, September 20, 2019 at the funeral home, with procession to the Church to follow. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life was held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover at 10:30 am on Friday September 20, 2019. Reverend Dennis Morrissey officiated. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

David was born July 26, 1953 in Savanna, the son of Francis and Helen (Hoertz) McCormick. David graduated from Hanover High School and Loras College. He was very athletic in school - playing football and excelling at basketball and golf. After college, he worked in administration at an electric utility. Following that he joined the golf industry at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena. He relocated from the Hanover area to Sarasota, FL and worked in several aspects of the golf business including retail, instruction, and golf operations.

David enjoyed playing golf as well as discussing golf, all sports, and stock market investments with his many friends and with anyone he met. He was an enthusiastic promoter of the game of golf and helped to make it more enjoyable for many.

Survivors include his brother Gary (Carol) McCormick of Coal Valley, IL and sister Mary Jo Metz of Evanston, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family thanks his close friends in Florida – Sonny Riazzi and Jerry Robinett for their assistance coordinating numerous activities following his passing They would also thank his friends Jimmy Vollenweider and Mike Voss for their support and coordination of the Celebration of Life event held in Sarasota.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends in the Hanover and Sarasota areas. Included is Sonny’s dog Maggie who loved Dave beyond imagination.

Kimberly Ingram Ramirez, 53

Kimberly Ingram Ramirez, age 53, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois.

A visitation was held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 21, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Kim was born October 21, 1965, the daughter of George and Laura (Sanders) Ingram in Tannana, Alaska. Kimberly’s father George passed away when she was only ten months old. Her mother, Laura, later remarried Frank Pentecost, who would raise Kimberly, and become her second father. Franks work took Kimberly’s family around the entire country, and she graduated from Fayetteville North Carolina High School in 1983. Kim married Francisco Ramirez on October 15, 1996. She and Francisco have lived in the Hanover area for 11 years, where they owned and operated Elizabeth Tire.

Kim loved being with her children and grandchildren, being active in her community and working with her husband, Francisco, in their business. She enjoyed helping others, loved animals, and antiquing. Kim has a large extended family that she loved very much.

Kimberly will be lovingly remembered by her Husband, Francisco Ramirez of Hanover; her three children, Jarrett Green of Midland Texas, Joshua (Samantha) Crotteau of Stevens point Wisconsin, and Danielle (Chad) Crotteau of Stevens Point Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Avery, Blaire, Alice, Jarrett, and Lacy; her brother, Frank Pentecost of Freeport Illinois; her sister, Kelly McAdams of Birmingham Alabama; and her mother, Laura Pentecost of Freeport Illinois; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Kimberly is preceded in death by both of her fathers, George Ingram, and Frank Pentecost; as well as her Grandparents.

Savanna

Nancy Louise Swift, 77

Nancy Louise Swift, age 77, of Savanna, Illinois, died Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Allure Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Savanna. A visitation was held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the Church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Memorials may be given in Nancy’s honor to the First Presbyterian Church. Nancy was born November 25, 1941, the daughter of Marvin and Elemeta (Bahr) Stadel on the family farm in Thompson Township, near Schapville, Illinois. She attended Scales Mound High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. She graduated from Sterling School of Beauty Culture in 1960. Nancy met the love of her life, Russell “Butch” Swift at the Royal Palace in Galena, Illinois. They married on November 7, 1964 in Schapville, Illinois. Together they raised two children and celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Nancy was a hairdresser for 36 years, until her retirement in 2002. After retirement, she and Butch spent winters in Ironwood Mobile Park in Apache Junction, Arizona. She enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, shuffleboard, bean bags, and bingo. Nancy always had a smile on her face and was her kids’ biggest supporter when they were in sports. She was not only a Mom to her own kids, but a Mom to their friends as well. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Savanna Moose Lodge.

Nancy will be dearly missed by her two children, Steven (Carrie) Swift of Frederick, Colorado, and Stacy Webster of Savanna; two grandchildren, Ian and Gabrielle Miller; a brother-in-law, Bruce (Becky Newcomb) Browne of Savanna; a sister-in-law, Janie Stadel of Schapville, Illinois; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Elemeta; a brother, George in 1997; and a son-in-law, Don Webster in 2016.
