Stockton

Eric Thomasson, 94

Eric Thomasson, age 94, of Stockton, IL passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at Allure of Stockton. He was born November 27, 1927 in Wards Grove to the late Amos and Cleo (Blair) Thomasson. Eric married Vera Schuldt on October 29, 1948. Vera passed away August 12, 2017.

Eric went to Wards Grove School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. He had worked for the Savanna Ordinance Proving Ground and Southside City Service before becoming a farmer. Eric loved music and dancing.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; his sisters, Myrna, Corretta, Wynetta, Jospehine, Mary and Pauline; and his brother, Leslie.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. There will be a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be shared at http://www.hermannfuneralhome.com.

Pearl City

Janet Pauley, 68

On Monday, September, 26, 2022, Jan passed away at the age of 68. Born to LaVerne and Iona Sturtevant, Jan graduated from Pearl City High School in 1971. After working several years in various clerical positions, Jan returned to school receiving her license in cosmetology. She established her “Shear Magic” business within her home for over 20 years, where she could be available for her children when they returned home from school. Jan cared for each and every one of her customers as the shop became a place of conversation and laughter.

Jan loved family and enjoyed spending time with together during holidays, birthdays and any other special events. She especially loved her grandchildren visiting, as they always brought a smile to her face. She had a huge heart for her dogs, especially her basset hounds.

Jan was proceeded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband of 42 years, Darrell and their two sons Christopher (Sandra) Pauley, children: Madelyn and Hudson of Solon IA ; Timothy (Jody) Pauley, children; Mason, Beckett, and Fallyn of Pearl City, IL. She was also survived by her sisters, Sharon and Cheryl, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at the Hermann Funeral Home on Sunday October 2, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with funeral services to be held at the same facility on Monday October 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.

Hanover

Judith Ann (Miller) Guay, 75

Judith Ann (Miller) Guay was born July 9, 1947, in Savanna, Illinois. She is the daughter of Dwight and Maxine (Higley) Miller. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1965. She first married David Farrey and one daughter was born to that union – Sabina. Judi later married classmate, Gary Guay on January 22nd 1982 and they shared two sons – Rusty and Jared and 41 years of love and laughter.

Throughout her life, Judi owned and operated a beauty shop, the Distillery Tavern, several restaurants, and a host of other businesses. She was a true entrepreneur. Judi was a true "Legend in her own Time." Judi passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 23, 2022.

She is survived by three children, Sabina (Scott) Overman of Hanover, IL, Russell (Janae) Guay of Cedar Falls, IA, and Jared (Jennifer) Guay of Portage, IN; three grandchildren, Destiny Overman, Emma Guay, and Ethan Guay; brothers Denny Miller and Marc Miller; sister Sue Ann Kolasinksi; best friend, first cousin, and gambling boat partner Sharon Kay (Murphy) Holmbo, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Dwight and Maxine Miller, brothers Audie (Austin), Lynn, and Carey.

Funeral was at Hanover St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 29, 2022, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Visitation was Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover.

Elizabeth

James Edward Brown, 86

James Edward Brown, 86, of Elizabeth, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Midwest Senior Care Community, Galena, IL.

James was born at home in Galena, IL on July 15, 1936, to Stuart and Irene (Sweitzer) Brown. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1954. He married Patricia Lewis in 1958 and they had six children. He married Betty Lieb Nielsen on June 30, 1984, and James gained two stepdaughters.

James farmed for many years. He also proudly served as a Deputy for Jo Daviess County and as a part-time police officer in several communities throughout his career. Later in life, he worked in the maintenance department at the Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center, Elizabeth, Illinois.

Faith and family were important to James. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, IL. He enjoyed music, hunting, horses, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed Sunday morning coffee with his sons.

James is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Betty Brown; six children, Dianne Allendorf; Mark (Becky) Brown; Mike (Jane) Brown; David (Dena) Brown; Kathy (Rex) Kreuder; and Kevin (Dana) Brown; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Jim) Boop, and Suzanne (Jim) Koch; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Margie) Brown, one sister, Carole Berlage; and many nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Irene; his father and mother-in-law, Ervin and LaVonne Lieb, a son-in-law, Steven Allendorf; and a brother-in-law, Maurice Berlage.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Midwest Senior Care Community; the staff of Midwest Medical Center Physical and Occupational Therapy Department; the doctors and staff at Medical Associates Clinic; and Hospice of Dubuque for their exceptional and loving care of James.
