Warren

Dean B. Hicks, 85

Dean B. Hicks, age 85, of Warren, IL passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Dean was born in Freeport Illinois to Bernard and Helen (Millwright) Hicks on February 17, 1936.

He was a graduate of Warren Highschool class of 1954. Dean served as an MP in the United States Army from 1959 - 1961.On September 17, 1966, he married Kathy (Johnson) at St. Edwards Church in Racine, WI. Dean drove truck many different places over the years and continued to run a small family farm and ran the J&H Hardware Store in Warren. He loved socializing and having a beer with anyone.

Dean was the former President of Warren Chamber of Commerce, member of Warren Lions Club, Warren Fire Department, and Warren Ambulance Service. Apple River American Legion, and Warren school bus driver. He loved people, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by The Bride Kathy of Warren, The Boy Aaron (Mandy) Hicks of Warren, Foster Boy John Greenrod of Warren; Grandchildren Casey Moore; brother Roger (Noni) Hicks of Warren; sister-in-law Judy (Keith) Ruelle, Barb (Dan) Defaut, Karen (Willy) Johnson; brother-in-law Wally (Eleanor) Johnson, Gary (Kathy) Johnson, Ken Johnson; numerous cousins and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Helen (Millwright) Hicks, brother-in-law Gene Allen Johnson, Allen Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter (Joan) Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren. Funeral Service will follow, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Bronkema.

Interment will take place at St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Lena

David “Dave” Peight, 77

David “Dave” Peight, age 77, of Lena, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 29, 1944, in Freeport, IL to Phyllis Peight. Dave joined the United States Air Force at the age of 16 and proudly served his country for four years from 1960-1964. After serving, he began his career as a sportswriter for The Woodstock Star. He then became a supervisor at Kelly Springfield and worked there for 35 years until his retirement in 2000. He married Karen Timpe on October 27, 1973, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Freeport, IL.

Dave enjoyed traveling. His favorite trips were two to Europe. In his free time, he liked to golf, read, do crosswords and going out to eat. He was also an avid Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame Fan. Dave was his grandchildren’s biggest fan when it came to their school and sporting events.

Dave is survived by his wife; Karen of 48 years, five children; Darin (Jessica) Peight, Tara (Drew) Fitzanko, Brian (Annie) Peight, Deena Lyga, and David (Doreen) Peight. Grandchildren; Noah Peight, Owen Peight, Alivea Peight, Madalyn Fitzanko, Bryce Fitzanko, Sophie Fitzanko, Avery Peight, Quinn Peight, Brianna Lyga, Hope Minett, and Dylan Peight. His Dog; Molly.

Preceded in death by; his mother; Phyllis Peight, stepfather Ben Stein, In-Laws; Ambrose and Evelyn Timpe, uncles Charles Bratley and Jack Peight, aunts Virginia Bratley and Ruby Peight and his beloved dog; Yogi.

Services will be held at a later date.

Richard W. Konieczny, 86

Richard W. Konieczny, age 86, of Lena passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021. He was born on April 3, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Walter and Stephanie (Kolodziejski) Konieczny. He married Janet Keen on September 24, 1955, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. Richard was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother and will be deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his son- Thomas (Debra) Konieczny of Scottsdale, AZ; 3 grandchildren- Kari Beth (Ali) Hamidi of Orange County, CA, Katie Lauren (Blake) Crawford of Orange County, CA, and Allyson Rose Konieczny of Scottsdale, AZ; great-grandchildren- Shaheen, Ariana, and Maya Hamidi and Kayla Crawford; brother Fred Konieczny; brother-in-law Edward Keen and sister-in-laws Waunita Keen and Christine Keen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet in 2013, sons- David in infancy and Donald in 2016; sister Ina (Frank) Paglini; sister-in-law Dorthy Konieczny, and brother-in-law Kenneth Keen.

Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL. Visitation was from Noon until time of service on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Pastor Keri Rainsberger officiated the service. Burial will take place at Lena Burial Park in Lena, IL.

Hanover

Robert L. “Bob” Patterson, 82

Robert L. “Bob” Patterson, age 82, of Hanover was known as a hero and great man to his family, the best bus driver in the world to many students, and a guy that would help anybody at-the-drop-of-a-hat. At the age of 82, Bob passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Center.

Robert was born February 16, 1939 in Galena, Illinois, the son of Edward Raymond and Luella Mae (Sanderson) Patterson. He grew up on a farm near Hanover attending Black Country School, then graduating in 1956 from Hanover High School. After High school he went right to work at Jo Daviess Service Company and Wayman Cobine Farm Equipment both in Elizabeth.

While working at Jo Daviess Service Bob met his life-long love, Betty L. Woker. It didn’t take long and they decided to tie the knot on November 29, 1958. Together they have celebrated 63 years and raised five children. Bob and Betty bought land near Hanover in 1963 where they farmed, milked cows, and made a lot of memories until retiring from farming in 2000. Retiring allowed them to pursue a passion for camping, especially with the grandkids. Bob also loved helping his son during truck-pulling competitions. Bob and Betty were members of the Hanover United Presbyterian Church.

Bob drove school bus for 13 years, served as the Elizabeth Township Road Commissioner for several years, worked for the JoDaviess County Highway Department and ran a tire-fixing service for farmers called Area Tire Service. He didn’t sit still long.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife Betty of Hanover; three daughters, Diana (George Turner) Harms, Kay (Bommer) Temperly and Rita (Stephen) Brown, all of Hanover; his two sons, Terry (Lori) Patterson of Elizabeth and Kevin Patterson of Durand; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Vesely of Hanover and Shirley (Dale) Dodson of Belle Fourche, SD; and a brother, Richard (Deborah) Patterson of Mountain Home, AR. Bob is preceded in death by both parents and a brother-in-law, Vince Vesely.

Visitation was held 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A funeral service was held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 at the funeral home with Jeannie Ohms officiating. Burial will be in Log Church Cemetery, Hanover. A memorial has been established.

Orangeville

Gerald “Sparky” Stamm, 84

Gerald “Sparky” Stamm, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday October 30, 2021, at his home in Orangeville with his family at his side.

Gerald was born on May 27,1937 to Glen and Flo (Adams) Stamm in Dakota, IL. He married Verna Stich on April 12, 1963, at the Lena United Methodist Church. Gerald served our nations country in the Army from 1959-1962. After he got out of the Army, he worked at Stich Sand and Gravel of Lena, the RS and D Ready Mix. He started farming in 1967. Gerald enjoyed life on the farm, spending time with his family, grandchildren, playing cards and visiting with his friends to discuss the daily events.

Gerald is survived by his wife- Verna of Orangeville, three children- Lisa (Neal) Boeke of Juda, WI, David (Jodee) Stamm of McConnell, and Lori (Brian) Rote of McConnell; seven grandchildren- Amber (Kyle) Tews of Orfordville, WI, Andy (Hillary) Boeke of Juda, WI, Heather (Jim) Reilly of Brodhead, WI, Austin (Alli) Stamm of Orangeville, Carley Rote of Orangeville, Crystal (fiancée Mitchel Stites) Rote of Rock City, IL, and Carson Rote of McConnell; six great grandchildren, and one on the way; brother- Larry (Peggy) Stamm of Freeport, Ron (Pat) Stamm of Kent, IL, and Marlen Stamm of Winslow; sister- Marlene Stamm of Aurora, CO; many nieces and nephews and Special friend Joe Smeck.

He was preceded in death by his-parents and sister-Joanne Seffrood.

Funeral Service was Monday, November 8, 2021, 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in McConnell. IL, with a visitation from 10:00am until time of service. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Leamon Funeral Home, Lena, IL. Ernie Stabenow Officiated the service.

Interment will take place at Cedarville Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name.

Gerald’s family wants to thank SSM Hospice and his care givers- Alyssa, Sue and Heather for their excellent care and kindness.
