There were no fans, no pep band, no smell of popcorn wafting through the air, no cheering parents, and not even a jump ball – but both Aquin and Eastland were more than thrilled that they finally got to play basketball Wednesday night in what turned out to be the opening game for the entire region in Girls Basketball.

And while some first game mistakes were made, both teams put on quite a show as the Eastland Cougars took advantage of the opportunities they were given, while Aquin let too many get away as the Cougars held on for a 44-41 victory in Freeport.
