Stockton

Richard L. Magee, 78

Richard L. Magee, age 78 of Stockton, IL, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 3, 2020.

He was born July 22, 1942; the son of the late Eldon and Eunice (Kunz) Magee. Richard married Margaret “Peggy” Sullivan on June 3, 1961.

He owned and operated Magee Concrete Construction for 12 years and for FS Stephenson Service Company for 18 years. Richard was also a volunteer fireman for 7 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton where he served on the church board and finance committee to build Holy Cross School.

He loved camping, golfing and playing cards. He especially loved family time and Sunday breakfasts.

Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Magee of Stockton; children, Tracy (Terry) Calhoun of Stockton, Richard A. “Butch” (Cathy) Magee of Stockton, Suzanne (Mike) Kriebs of Stockton, Steven (Andrea) Magee of Lena, IL, and Molly (Bruce) Musser of Stockton; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Bonnie (Dave) Smythe of Martin Town, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy Guenther.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton with a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Stockton.

Shannon

Viola M. Cook, 98

Viola M. Cook, age 98 of Shannon, IL passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Allure of Mt. Carroll.

She was born September 3, 1922 to the late Orville and Orpha (Shirk) VanBrocklin. Viola married Harleth Cook on September 17, 1942. Harleth passed away March 6, 1996.

She was a graduate of Shannon High School and a member of Freeport Moose Lodge and Freeport Eagles Club. Viola helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed square dancing, line dancing and playing cards at the Moose. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would always be there to watch their sporting events and help them show cattle.

Viola is survived by her two sons, Gary Cook of Petersburg, WI and Rick (Marsha) Cook of Shannon; her grandchildren, Mike Cook, Matt Cook, Mark (Sheila) Cook, Marty (Jenny) Cook, Lisa (Tom) Disher, Jeff (Melissa Foster) Cook and Rick (Kari) Cook; her great grandchildren, Johnny Cook, Riley Cook, Skyler Barncord, Caden Shurman, Bryce Cook and Aubree Cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Christ Gabriel; her husband; and her two brothers, Albert and Arthur VanBrocklin.
