Lena

Ellen Lou (Busse) Kyles, 92

Ellen Lou (Busse) Kyles, age 92 of Lena, IL, passed away on Sunday July 19, 2020 at the Lena Living Center.

Ellen was born on May 11, 1928 on her father’s birthday, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA to William and Maud (Holt) Busse. She married Frank on June 18, 1947 at Catholic parsonage. She taught in a rural school from 1946-1947. They lived in Rockwell City until 1955 and the moved to Lena, IL in January of 1955 where Frank worked for Illinois Central. She spent five years working at Burgess Battery in Freeport, IL after their last child graduated from high school. Ellen also worked at the Lena Library for several years, and books were her passion.

At the age of 54, she entered Highland Community College receiving her RN degree. She worked at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI and received her BSN from Northern Illinois University in 1989. She was asked to be in a pilot program by the Lutheran Hospital in Moline, IL of ten rural nurses. She served four years with four rural churches and four years with two churches. After retiring she worked for Coach’s Golf Course and she enjoyed golfing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading.

Ellen is survived by her children; Cynthia (Ed) Morris of Belvidere, IL, Bruce (Jean) Kyles of Round Rock, TX, Allen (Bonnie) Kyles of Ennis, MT, Deborah (Scott) Solace of Lena, IL, Barbara (John Harty) Kyles of Iowa City, IA and 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, step sister Donna Tankersley, son-in-law Terry McCulloch, and one brother-in-law Roland Harklau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, daughter Marian Lou McCulloch, sisters, Wilma M. (George) Dunn and Carol Ann Harklau, one brother Allen D. (Joyce) Busse, her step mother Mary, two step sisters Bonnie and Eva Lou.

A celebration of life will be held at Coach’s Golf Course in Lena, IL next year on June 26, 2021. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established in her memory for the Monroe Hospice, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Lena Library.

Stockton

Mike “Greenie” Grenoble, 65

Mike “Greenie” Grenoble, 65, of Stockton, IL passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the UW Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 15, 1955 in Freeport, IL to Raymond and Betty (Blair) Grenoble. Greenie was an excellent football player in high school. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with the love of his life, Sue Burke.

Mike is survived by the love of his life, Sue, his sister Pat (Keith Anderson - who Mike considered a brother) Grenoble, daughter Amie Grenoble, nephew Ray (Teresa) Tesmer and niece Renee (Chris) Lacher and their children; Kelsey, Tanner, and Madison Tesmer, and Tabitha (Brandon Erickson) and Zachery Lacher, nephew Roger (Christy) Grenoble and niece Jody (Scott) Kubat and their children; Jordan and Dillion Grenoble and Allison and Carter Kubat.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at West Ella Cemetery in Apple River, IL. A visitation was from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren IL. Pastor Roger Bronkema officiated the services.

Elizabeth

Mary Ann (Kloss) Morhardt, 54

Mary Ann (Kloss) Morhardt, 54 of Elizabeth, passed away on Friday July 17, 2020, due to a tragic vehicle accident.

A visitation was held 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A private funeral mass was held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 24 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elizabeth IL. Mary Ann was born on June 6, 1966 in Freeport, Illinois, daughter of Russell and Beverly (Schuldt) Kloss. She was a graduate of Elizabeth High School (Class of 1984). She married Duane Morhardt on August 31, 2001 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth. They farmed in the Elizabeth/Stockton area.

Outside of helping out as a farmer’s wife (a job she truly enjoyed), Mary Ann previously was employed at Dura Automotive in Stockton, and later on at Walmart in Galena. She developed so many lasting relationships at Walmart and will be missed by all.

Mary Ann was an active member at St. Mary’s in Elizabeth, attending Mass regularly and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, photography, making arts and crafts, and always helping out when she could and selflessly thinking of others. She enjoyed all animals, especially her cats and cows. A few of her other favorite things included gardening, the Green Bay Packers, Eeyore, and being an active role in her niece and nephew’s lives as much as she could.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Duane Morhardt of Elizabeth, IL; her mother, Beverly Kloss of Elizabeth, IL; her brother, Bill Kloss of Elizabeth, IL; her sister, Heather (Drew) Kluesner and their children Alicia and Ben of Dubuque, IA; Uncle Eric Thomasson (pseudo-grandfather) of Stockton, IL; her brother-in-law Michael (Debbie) of Great Falls Montana, her sister-in-law Lynette (Wayne) Schultz of Stockton, IL, and sister-in-law Paula Morhardt of Stockton, IL, along with other aunts and cousins.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Russell Kloss, her father-in-law Harold Morhardt, her mother-in-law Rose Morhardt, her brother-in-law LaVerne Morhardt and many other aunts and uncles.
