Stockton

Sharon A. (Vanderheyden) Broshous, 75

Sharon A. (Vanderheyden) Broshous age 75, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at FHN Hospital in Freeport.

She was born on October 11, 1944 in Freeport, IL to Lloyd and Myrtle (Carpenter) Vanderheyden. She married Danny B. Broshous on April 29, 1961 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton, IL.

Sharon was a member and secretary for the Wesley United Methodist Church. Sharon worked for Citizen’s State Bank for 40 years, retiring in 2017. A founding member of the Apple River Canyon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was elected the outstanding younger junior for the D.A.R. She was a den mother for the Stockton Boy Scouts of America and a winner of the Stockton High School “Freshman Cup”.

She is survived by her husband Danny of 59 years, Sons; Douglas A. (Cathy) Broshous and Deryl L. (Hillary) Broshous all of Stockton, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 sister Linda (Steve) Thayer of Freeport and 2 brothers; Robert (Jane) Vanderheyden and Jack (Laurrel) Vanderheyden both of Stockton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Dennis D. Broshous, one grandson Dennis D. Broshous, brothers; Malcom, Duane, Kenneth, William “Bill”, and Roger, one sister June Finn.

Funeral services will be private.

Visitation was held from 4-7:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL, where social distancing was be practiced.

Burial will be at Moresville Cemetery in Stockton, IL. Pastor Paul Fritz will officiate the services.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

South Wayne, WI

Marie E. Zuberbuhler, 99

Marie E. Zuberbuhler, of South Wayne, WI, originally from Gratiot, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, WI. She was full of life in her 99 years on this Earth.

Marie was born March 3, 1921, in Warren, IL, to Frank and Hatte (Gutzmer) Kent. She graduated in 1938 from Warren High School. She helped on the family farm until she married Clarence Zuberbuhler of Gratiot on February 10, 1940 at the Little Brown church in Nashua, Iowa. She helped farm near Gratiot with Clarence until they moved into Gratiot in 1979 due to Clarence’s health. She then went to work for Coast to Coast in Warren for 3 years. She then finished her work at Ace Hardware in Monroe for 22 years as a cashier. She loved being with the many friends while she worked there and is still known as “Mrs. Ace.” Marie was a huge sports fan, especially the Packers. She loved going to her son’s football games and her grandson’s football and basketball games. She loved watching all sports including all of the local games.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Clarence on May 6, 1996, her son Ron in 2018, her mother in 1987, her father in 1958, and her brother Earl Kent in 1984.

She loved her family dearly-especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandson’s - Nick (Mia) Zuberbuhler of Darlington, Dan Zuberbuhler of Darlington, and Wade (Angela) Zuberbuhler of Lena; Great Grandchildren- Zoie and Zeke Zuberbuhler of Darlington and Camille, Knox and Kane Zuberbuhler of Lena. Marie also was a second mom to a lot of kids that worked on their farm.

Marie was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church, the Farmer’s Wife Card Club for 45 years, the Lafayette County Homemakers, the Pecatonica Club, and served as the county president for 6 years. She was a very busy lady, but loved it all very much.

Savanna

Harlan Edward Brunner, 82

Harlan Edward Brunner, age 82 of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Allure Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A visitation took place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Church. Social distancing guidelines were in effect, and wearing masks was encouraged. Harlan was born May 4, 1938, the son of Henry and Edna (Engleking) Brunner at the Savanna Hospital. Harlan attended Pleasant Hill Country School in a one room schoolhouse on Jacobstown Road. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1961-67, being stationed in Kentucky and Fort Carson, Colorado. Harlan married Donetta Burkholder on August 2, 1964 in her hometown of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Together they raised three children and celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Harlan farmed for 30 years until his retirement in 1990, after which he sold promotional products and specialty advertising to local businesses. He was a very active member of the community, serving as a member of the Carroll Service Company Board, Carroll County Pork Producers, Mt. Carroll Rural Cemetery Board, Carroll County Soil & Water Conservation Committee, Mt. Carroll Ministerial Association, as well as Gideons International.

Harlan was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God, where he served as a visitation minister, and a small group leader. Harlan stayed busy throughout his retirement, volunteering his time as an election judge, mowing lawns and cemeteries, and attending tractor shows and productions at Timber Lake Playhouse. He also enjoyed traveling—visiting Alaska, Hawaii and the Smoky Mountains. Harland especially loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren in all their activities.

Harlan will be dearly missed by his wife, Donetta, three children, Alan Brunner of Lanark, Janell (Dan) Hartman of Mt. Carroll and Kerwin (Angela) Brunner of Wausau, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Daniel, Celia and Lydia; a sister, Henrietta (Fred) Grogg of Albion, Michigan; several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Alvena McGraw of New Ulm, Texas. Harlan is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Edna, and a brother-in-law.
