Justice System In Overwhelm

Last Thursday, Preliminary hearings were held regarding criminal charges for Mob Action being leveled upon some of the people arrested the night of May 31st during the Freeport riots.

Village Voices was in attendance, partly to see if any of the instigators we witnessed that night had been arrested, but also to get a lesson in our local legal system.

At a Preliminary Hearing, the burden is on the State's Attorney – the prosecutor. They must prove that there is probable cause that the charges made against the suspects are valid, and that the next step should be a plea by the defendant. If it is...
