  • Preacher's Piece

Traditional wisdom comes from the old adage: “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” In the technology-saturated world we live in today, that wisdom may be challenged, but it still holds true for the most part. There is no substitute for hard work. A friend shared with me a quote from his grandpa from years ago: “When you and I are dead and gone there is still going to be work to do and some darn fool trying to get it done.” We mused about the two sayings for a w...

  • Power Rankings

Baseball 1. Lena-Winslow 13 – 4 Panthers have figured it out - strong pitching and a lineup that is murdering the ball right now. 2. Eastland 10 – 6 Big wins over both Forreston and Warren/Stockton vault the Cougars up to the #2 spot. 3. Fulton 11 – 2 Steemers continue to cruise through their schedule, but it's not an impressive on right now. 4. Warren/Stock 14 – 4 Warhawks had a bad week as both Eastland and East Dubuque took them down. Need to rebound. 5. Forreston 10 – 3 Cardinals are stumb...

    Dan Stevens|May 4, 2022

  • Your Voices

    May 4, 2022

Intaxication – Is the Euphoria you get when you find out you’re getting a tax refund. It usually only lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. I’m really glad I learned about parallelograms instead of how to do taxes. It’s come in really handy this parallelogram season. H&R Block called and said your tax refund is ready. So, tell me again about how you’re going to open a savi...
