  • Your Favorite Musicals

    Dan Stevens|Apr 15, 2020

We got a tremendous response on our Best of All Time survey where we had readers vote for who they thought were the best male and female athletes from the school districts we cover. Over 1200 people voted! A number that boggles the mind when we stop to think about it. But as everyone knows, I am also a theater geek, so we are now proud to present our online survey for which shows you loved the most from the eight different Theater Departments that participate in the Voice Awards. • Preacher's Piece

    Kevin Cernak|Apr 15, 2020

“Work Work Work” I got the rototiller out the other day and tilled the garden. It sat in the machine shed all winter, but still started on the second pull. It’s one of those tines in back tiller. You can hold on to it with one hand and walk beside it while it tills so as not to leave footprints in the freshly churned soil. (Spoiler alert: it’s not always that simple but it looks good in the magazine advertisements). My wife was out there last week on that 70 degree day getting her seeds in the...

  • Point To Ponder

    Dan Stevens|Apr 15, 2020

I think the world has reached a new low. I have witnessed stupidity in my life. I have myself done some incredibly stupid things – from the simple, to the monumental “what were you thinking” moments. I have seen psychotic street people in New York City having arguments with themselves as they walked down the street. And I have seen some incredibly inappropriate actions take place that were deliberately done to shock those who witnessed them. But nothing – nothing in all of my years living...

  • Looking Back

    Dan Stevens|Apr 15, 2020

Readers suggested we resume our "Looking Back" feature to help fill the void left by a lack of local sports, so ... Broncos Finally Earn One The curse of being a really strong team in any sport is that you aren't often challenged. Take softball and the Orangeville Broncos. Sure, hey were 10-0 coming into their weekend tournament, but none of those games had been closer than six runs, and the average margin of victory was over the ten run rule! So, the question many people were asking was ......

  • The State Rep's Report

    Andrew Chesney|Apr 15, 2020

I’ve been known to attract some online criticism from time to time. However, one of the more perplexing reasons I have caught grief while serving in elected office is the reaction I often receive when mentioning a term I talk about a lot - “Northwest Illinois Values”. We don’t talk about values enough as a society, in my humble opinion. We talk about it so little, in fact, that my use of the term has often brought forth a fear that my values may not match your values and that is a reason...
